beginner group classes

Group classes are offered regularly to teach people how to knit. They cost $20-$50, depending upon the size of the group and the length of the class. There’s a 10% discount on class supplies. In no time you’ll make a cowl!

private lessons

Private knitting and crochet lessons are offered for $25 per hour. Designed for those who want individual attention, they can help you learn how to knit, refresh your skills, practice a new stitch, decipher your pattern, or get the support you need. They are available by appointment during regular business hours. Just stop by or call to schedule one.

project-based group classes

There are various group workshops that focus on specific projects and techniques. They include classes that teach hats, gloves, socks, sweaters, cables, fair isle, lace, and more. They're scheduled periodically.

Learn the basics of knitting: how to cast on, knit, and bind off.  Whether you’ve never knit before or need a refresher, this class will get you up and running!  Our simple cowl is a great beginner project.  In part 1, you’ll start your cowl and we’ll guide you through it!

Learn the basics of crochet: the chain stitch, single crochet, and double crochet. If you’re new to crochet or need to re-learn this class is for you! Our simple cowl is a great beginner project and you’ll go home with all of the skills you’ll need to finish.

If you are ready to take your crochet skills to the next level, this class will help you add stitches to your repertoire or use the stitches you already know to create shaping and new textures.  A popular project for this class is our Mrs. Moon Chunky Puff Cowl.  Kristine, our resident crochet expert, will help you build your skills and guide you through your next project!

 

Feel free to join our Open Knitting/Crocheting every Saturday (3-5 pm), Sunday (3-5 pm) or Thursday evening (7-9 pm).  Stitchers of all levels are welcome!

Embroidery, the art of using thread to embellish fabric, has come back in unique and contemporary ways!  Local artist, Joslyn, will teach several popular stitches using a custom designed sampler!

There’s a rich history of embroidery in the United States and Joslyn loves looking back to the history of how women and education and embroidery meet.  We’ll talk a bit about this, and then you’ll learn several traditional embroidery stitches as you discover how to create a design on fabric.  Enjoy sparkling rose while stitching!

Hats are a great next step after you’ve mastered scarves and cowls.  In this class, you’ll learn to knit in the round using circular and double pointed needles.

 

 

Learn to Magic Loop A Hat / $25 plus supplies  – purchased on day of class

When you are able to knit a hat in the magic loop technique, you no longer have to switch to double-pointed needles to finish! You can work the whole hat on one set of needles, regardless of the size. Even if you are familiar with knitting in the round, this is a great way to learn a new technique!

Bring a little Shetland inspiration to your knitting!  Fair isle is a style of stranded color work that is easier than it looks, using only two colors at one time.  Stop in for pattern recommendations (including these above), and advice about getting started.  We are here to help you master the fair isle technique!

Learning to knit 2 socks at a time is so gratifying. Part one of this class will teach you the magic cast-on and how to increase seamless toes. In part two, you’ll learn heel shaping and leave prepared to finish both socks!
