share the love… knit bears with us

This weekend we’re kicking off another Charity Knitalong – for our favorite organization, The Mother Bear Project.

Read the inspirational story of how the Mother Bear Project began here.

Many of you joined us the past two summers

to knit and crochet bears for a good cause.

This time, we thought, what better way to feel the

Valentine’s Day love than to make bears

for children who need to feel loved?

Our bears go to The Mother Bear Project

and then get distributed to children who have been impacted by HIV/Aids in Africa and other emerging nations.

We hope you’ll find it in your heart to make a bear this month!

Even if you’ve just learned to knit or crochet, you can do it.

Just grab your size 7 needles and G hooks

(similar sizes will also work).

Yarn will be provided, but feel free to raid your stash

for some worsted weight and/or bring some fiberfill stuffing.

We’ll be making bears together with love on Sundays from 3-5pm:

February 2, 9, 16, and 23.

Come one Sunday, or come all four.

Please call us at 773.486.8996 or email us at

info@ninachicago.com to register.

The bear pattern costs $5 and can be purchased in advance

through www.motherbearproject.org or Ravelry.

If you’re not able to join us on Sundays, but would like to make a bear on your own,

feel free to bring it to the shop and we’ll send it off with ours.

Here’s a picture of the bears our customers made for us to donate last summer. Adorable!

2014 Nina Winter Games…

It only happens once every four years!

We’d like to formally invite you to the first ever NINA WINTER GAMES

Are you up for a little competition?  Enter our Winter Games!

First, choose the event in which you’d like to compete:

Shibui Snowboarding, HiKoo Luge or  Classic Elite Curling

Using only the yarns within your designated yarn company (Shibui, HiKoo or Classic Elite), you may knit or crochet whatever you like!

Projects must be started after the opening ceremony and completed before the closing ceremony, so choose wisely!

A gold, silver and bronze medal will be awarded within each event, based on level of difficulty, technical merit, and creativity.

There will be special discounts for those who enter and prizes for medal winners!

The 2014 Nina Winter Games take place from 3-5pm the following Saturdays:
Feb 1 –   opening ceremony & events commencement
Feb 8 –   regular events & special speed competition
Feb 15 – regular events & special artistic competition
Feb 22 – events conclusion, closing ceremony & awards

Participation is free with the purchase of your yarn. You may choose to come in ahead of time to pick your project or do so on opening day.

Please call us at 773.486.8996 to reserve your spot in one of the three events, or email us at info@ninachicago.com.

We look forward to seeing some perfect 10s!

brrrrrr…

It’s snowy in Chicago!

Sounds like a good time to knit or crochet something warm.

The shop occasionally hosts special events, book signings, trunk shows, and sales. Private events can also be arranged at the shop by request.

Perhaps you'd like to have a birthday party centered around a knitting lesson. Or a baby shower during which everyone learns to knit a square for a baby blanket. Or a corporate networking event that features knitting instruction. Or a book club that encourages participants to knit while discussing the book. Nina: a well-knit shop is available for these and other special events.
