Chicago Yarn Crawl & Yarn Bomb Kick-Off Party

The 2014 Yarn Crawl begins this weekend, so get ready to grab your passport at Nina and get crawling August 2-10!

All 28 Chicagoland yarn shops are excited to welcome you, enter you in prize drawings, offer free patterns, and provide special discounts.

Here’s a glimpse of our exclusive shop pattern – the Tonal Triangle.  It will be free during the Crawl and then available for purchase afterward.

At Nina we always like to kick things off in a big way, so…

Here’s what the outside of our shop looks like now.  We’d love for you to help us yarn bomb it.

Join us this Friday evening, August 1st from 5-8pm for a Yarn Bombing Party and shopping event.

We’ll have plenty of yarn on hand to knit, crochet, wrap, and otherwise adorn the outside.  Chips and MARGARITAS will be provided for your bombing pleasure!

Crawlers who join us for this kick-off event will receive their passports early and get the 10% Yarn Crawl discount.  You’ll be entered in a special prize drawing for Yarn Bombers only, and you’ll receive a little gift bag.

Can’t make it to our party on Friday?  No worries… any crawler who starts the Crawl at our shop on Saturday and receives the first passport stamp here will also receive a free gift and be entered in a special First Day prize drawing.

Plus, anytime during the Crawl, you can enter our drawing for the shop prize basket worth $100.

Whether we see you Friday evening, or during the rest of the Yarn Crawl August 2-10, we look forward to everyone crawling in!

Register now for Workshops with Ann Weaver September 20 & 21

Ann Weaver is coming back to our shop in September to teach 2 workshops.

Each workshop is $60 and you can register now by calling the shop 773.486.8996.

Workshop 1 – Albers Cowl:

The Albers Cowl is one of Ann Weaver’s most popular designs.  In this workshop you’ll learn the basics of color theory and experiment with color by using small amounts of yarn and simple techniques.  In addition to expanding your color vocabulary, you’ll learn to neatly pick up stitches from both horizontal and vertical edges.  You’ll work with fingering weight yarn on small needles to make garter stitch squares that will be connected.

If you’re not available for the Albers Cowl on Saturday, Sept 20th, Ann will be teaching it at String Theory Yarn Company in Glen Ellyn that same weekend, so you can check availability there.

Workshop 2 – Yipes Stripes Cowl:

The Yipes Stripes Cowl is such a fun piece!   This workshop teaches great striping techniques including a turned hem, two color and three color braids, large stripes, slipped stitches, and a two color bind off.  This project is a great way to learn and practice these techniques.  It can be easily customized to include more colors, more braids, and more stripes!  The cowl uses approximately 100 yards of each of five colors.

Ann Weaver has created things her whole life.  She learned to knit when she was seven, and started sharing her designs through various forms of publication in 2007.

Since graduating from New York University with majors in Art and English, Ann has worked as a deli associate, Harvard graduate student in Assyriology, Macy’s cosmetics counter manager, teaching fellow, assistant curator, state bureaucrat, temp, Akkadian instructor,  medical secretary, assistant office manager, barback, commercial bread maker, and proofreader, among other things.  She is always looking for a new adventure.

Ann’s design work reflects this quest for adventure; while retaining a clean wearable aesthetic, Weaverknits designs experiment with asymmetry, unusual color and yarn combinations.

Check out Ann’s other designs on Ravelry here.

We know you’ll love meeting and learning from Ann.

Don’t miss out on her workshops!  Call us to sign up now!  773.486.8996

The shop occasionally hosts special events, book signings, trunk shows, and sales. Private events can also be arranged at the shop by request.

Perhaps you'd like to have a birthday party centered around a knitting lesson. Or a baby shower during which everyone learns to knit a square for a baby blanket. Or a corporate networking event that features knitting instruction. Or a book club that encourages participants to knit while discussing the book. Nina: a well-knit shop is available for these and other special events.
