Two Color Brioche For Beginners

Learn the intriguing brioche technique in this colorful workshop taught by the King of Brioche himself, Stephen West! After declaring brioche the stitch of the year of 2015, the technique has gained massive popularity and a cult following. This class will guide you through a two-color cast on, an I-cord cast on, brioche knit/purl stitches, and directional increases and decreases. If you have experience with brioche already, there will be some intermediate stitch patterns and colorwork techniques to explore.

Requirements: You should be familiar with basic knitting skills like cast on, bind off, knit, purl, yarn over, and decreasing. All brioche stitches will be taught during the class.

Materials: At least 2 contrasting colors of worsted weight wool (non-superwash recommended). For example, use black and white or dark blue and bright yellow – two yarns that have high contrast. If you already have experience in brioche, you can work with finer yarns.

Dotted Rays by Stephen West, photo by Darren Smith

Stephen West is originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma. After moving to the Chicago area, he caught the knitting bug and started designing patterns while epic amounts of wool infiltrated into his life. There was no looking back. He now lives in Amsterdam and travels frequently, teaching knitting workshops throughout the US and Europe.

We’ve been lucky to host him for events at our shop several times over the past 11 years, and we’re thrilled to welcome him back again!!

Hope you can join us!

impressive customer & staff projects!

The best thing about working at a yarn shop is applauding our customers and staff when they show what they’ve made. There’s so much reason for applause this month!

jen's mora chemise at ninaJen designed this stunning chemise, and is developing the pattern so she can offer it through Ravelry. It was knit with Malabrigo Mora, a mulberry silk with incredible drape.

The shop occasionally hosts special events, book signings, trunk shows, and sales. Private events can also be arranged at the shop by request.

Perhaps you'd like to have a birthday party centered around a knitting lesson. Or a baby shower during which everyone learns to knit a square for a baby blanket. Or a corporate networking event that features knitting instruction. Or a book club that encourages participants to knit while discussing the book. Nina: a well-knit shop is available for these and other special events.
