Have you been wanting to try knitting your first pair of socks? Have you been struggling with double-pointed needles? Have you been wondering about those FlexiFlips and how to use them? If you answered yes to any of these, this is a great class for you!
Since our last class, we've added another option: slipper socks! This option is great if you prefer to work with a thicker yarn and larger needles for your first pair of socks. We will be demonstrating this thicker option for better visibility, but the techniques will be the same regardless of which option you choose.
We will make our first sock over the course of three sessions, top down and one-at-a-time, using Addi FlexiFlips. The class schedule is as follows:
Session 1: Students will learn how to begin knitting in the round on the FlexiFlips, after any sizing questions have been answered. Once everyone is moving along, we will go through and prepare for the upcoming steps so students may begin the process for the heel.
Session 2: After two weeks to work the leg, we will fully tackle the heel construction and make sure all of your questions are answered. After everyone is comfortable with the heel, we will continue on and start discussing the toe construction.
Session 3: Things move along quickly after the heel! We will get all of your final questions answered so you are ready to finish off your first sock. At this point, you will know everything you need to complete your second sock.
You'll choose from one of these two patterns (sock weight is for the more adventurous):
Sock Weight Option (lighter) - Rye Light by Tin Can Knits. Please download this free pattern prior to class. Supplies needed include 1 to 2 skeins of sock yarn, 2 sets of FlexiFlips, stitch markers, and a darning needle.
Worsted Weight Option (thicker) - Rye by Tin Can Knits. Please download this free pattern prior to class. Supplies needed include 1 to 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn, 2 sets of FlexiFlips, stitch markers, and a darning needle.
Because there are multiple options, we will have you purchase your supplies separately. Upon your registration, we will contact you to see which option you prefer and send you links to the specific supplies you'll need. All supplies for the class will be 10% off. This discount will be honored if you choose to buy supplies in person, or we can email you a unique discount code if you would like to purchase your supplies online.
**It is recommended that students are comfortable with knitting and purling, as well as basic increases and decreases.
