Learn to Knit

Knitting continues to gain popularity! Learning is both fun and easy. We’ll start by casting on and before the class ends, you will be well on your way to making a chunky cowl or scarf. We have a great selection of yarns for you to choose from, so come about 10-15 minutes early and we can set you up with your first skein of yarn and needles that you will need for the class. $25 plus supplies.

 

Learn to Crochet

Crochet isn’t just granny squares and blankets! Learning is both fun and easy. In just an hour, you will be well on your way to making a cute chunky cowl. Punch Needle Workshop

Saturday, October 19th from 3:00-5:30pm

Try out the punch needle technique you’ve been hearing so much about! In this workshop, Kristin Oldach of KraeO will start at the beginning and take you through the whole process, resulting in a finished piece. No previous experience is required for you to join us and complete your first punch needle project! $150 including supplies.

 

Learn to Sew: Holiday Napkins

Sunday, October 27th from 1:00-3:00pm

Learn the basics of machine sewing and get a jump on your holiday table settings all at once! This class is the perfect introduction for anyone with very little or no sewing experience, whether you have a machine or not. Students will learn how to iron fabric in preparation for sewing, thread a machine, wind a bobbin, stitch straight seams and finish edges. $45-$60 including supplies.

 

Sashiko Napkin Embroidery Workshop

Monday, October 28th from 5:30-7:30pm

Sashiko is a hand-sewing technique that originated in ancient Japan. In Japanese, its name means “little stabs,” which references the simple running stitch that makes up the geometric patterns. No embroidery experience is necessary to give this technique a try! Students will learn to execute the pattern of their choosing and also how to stitch it up once the design is completed. Join us for a casual and relaxing event and learn something new. Your choice of sampler, embroidery floss and needles are all included in the workshop fee. Students will receive 10% off any additional Sashiko supplies after the workshop. $50 including supplies.

 

Learn Tunisian Crochet

Sunday, November 3rd from 3:00-4:30pm – sold out

This fun technique is often described as a hybrid of knitting and crocheting. Practice basic Tunisian stitches while you work up your own cowl. No previous knitting or crochet experience is necessary to learn Tunisian Crochet! $25 plus supplies.

 

Learn to Knit Brioche

Sunday, November 13th from 1:00-2:30pm – 1 spot left

Brioche is a popular stitch for its incredible texture and reversibility. On top of that, it’s fun and easy! Learn the basics in this class by making a 2-color cozy cowl that is sure to keep you warm! Materials needed for the class include 2 different colors of worsted weight yarn and 24″ size 8 circular needles. You can make a single cowl as shown or cast on more stitches for a double infinity cowl. Our squishy soft sample is made with Manos Maxima. Come a bit early if you would like some help choosing colors. Students should be comfortable with the knit and purl stitch as well as knitting in the round. $25 plus supplies.

 

Intro to Embroidery

Learn the basic stitches of embroidery with this adorable sampler! We’ll start with more basic stitches such as the running stitch and backstitch, then venture into some fun stitches such as the feather and chain. Everything you’ll need is included in this class. If you have never picked up sewing needle in your life, this is a good place to start. $50 including supplies.

 

Japanese Mud Dye Workshop

We are excited to welcome Sarah Jamison, owner of Firefly Fiber Arts Studio, and dyer of their Earthly Line, to Nina Chicago for a Japanese Mud Dye Workshop! You will be creating your own hand-painted organic cotton scarf as you learn the history of these ancient pigments. Bringing her experience and knowledge back from Japan, Sarah will instruct you on the techniques to prep and dye your organic cotton scarf with the beautiful earthy tones of the Japanese Mud Dyes.

This class is the perfect introduction for anyone with very little or no sewing experience, whether you have a machine or not. Students will learn how to iron fabric in preparation for sewing, thread a machine, wind a bobbin, and stitch straight seams with finished edges. After the machine part is complete, learn how to add a beautiful embroidery stitch to embellish the edges of your scarf. $55-$70 including supplies.
