Ananse is a spider diety and popular character in African and West Indian fables and folklore. In Akan folklore, Ananse is a clever spider who can bring joy and aid, or mischief and confusion to those around him. He is often depicted as a large spider or as the Andinkra symbol, which resembles an eight armed asterick.
This unique yarn is hand dyed locally by Naima Bond in very small batches. We collaborated with her for our 2021 Chicago Yarn Crawl project and decided to use her inspiration for our spider shawls! Both our knit shawl and crochet shawl each require one kit of two skeins.
See our Chicago Yarn Crawl projects here. Our knit shawl uses "stormy warm" and our crochet shawl uses "spectrum pink."
