supporting small vendors on small business saturday

We’re so excited about highlighting some of the other small businesses we work with on Small Business Saturday! Our business is such a personal one and our relationships with our small vendors are so important to us. So for Small Business Saturday this year, we have decided to promote three of our small vendors. One is local, one is from a faraway state in the US, and the third is halfway around the world. We are proud to maintain these personal relationships with each of them no matter how near or far.

Our first featured vendor is Handspun Hope, which is a recent addition to our shop, all the way from Rwanda. To learn more about their story, please see our other post here.

Thanks to Handspun Hope, jobs are provided for families who really need them and we are honored to be supporting them this Small Business Saturday by offering their handspun and dyed organic merino at 20% off!

Another small vendor we are delighted to be working with is Twisted Owl Fiber Studio, based in East Texas. We love this husband and wife team so much that we collaborated with them for our last Yarn Crawl. How could you not love these two? Abby and Byron are the best!

Beyond their wonderful customer service, Twisted Owl is so talented with their colors. We have been carrying their sock yarn since last year, but this year we also added some sparkles and DK in addition to the custom bundles they dyed up for the Crawl!

On Saturday only, please enjoy 20% off of our entire Twisted Owl collection!

A little closer to home (ok, a lot closer because she lives right over in Humboldt Park), we have a special collaboration with Kraeo, our resident local dyer. Some of you may have gotten to meet Kristin when we launched her yarns in our shop earlier this year. Kristin has become such a part of Nina Chicago that we keep finding new ways to work with her. The Nightshift by Andrea Mowry has recently taken the knitting world by storm, so she has dyed up some custom kits for it. These newly-released beauties will be 20% off, along with our entire Kraeo collection!

While we feature these three small vendors of ours, we are also going a bit further, a bit smaller, and even closer to home by featuring one of our customer-turned -designers! Looking for something to do in the dead of winter, Daniel Nunez first walked into our shop and learned how to knit back in January. Less than a year later, Badfly Knits was founded and Daniel released his first pattern.

“Estela” is Spanish for “wake,” a trail left in the water after a boat has passed, inspiring Daniels’ first design. The Estela Cowl uses scroll lace and cables to provide a motion reminiscent of flowing water after it has been disturbed by a passing vessel. Slipped stitches provide texture like seafoam, or rocks along the beach. The pattern has a fun flow to it, and after a few rounds, it will be smooth sailing as the knitter gets into the rhythm of the each section. This one-skein project is the perfect holiday gift! Purchase Daniel’s pattern from us on Small Business Saturday and we will give you 20% off the skein of yarn you use to make it! The samples shown are in Primrose Jasper DK and Baah Sonoma.

We are looking forward to supporting our small vendors this Small Business Saturday and we hope you can make it in!
