Nina, the shop, opened in November 2004.
Nina, the owner, learned to knit from a neighbor while growing up in Maine, where she bought her yarn directly from a local sheep farm. Her interest in fiber, texture and color continues today.
Her professional background is diverse—including years on Wall Street, in administration at a private college, and in management at a specialty retailer.
When she chose to start her own business, she decided to fuse her love for knitting with her keen sense of design. Her desire to be part of a community of creative people led her to open a shop that would attract and inspire them.
Nina had a vision of a stylish, contemporary space that introduced a new aesthetic to knitters. So she created a lovely, orderly environment filled with beautiful things. Products are carefully chosen and creatively arranged.
Inviting, sleek, calming and inspiring are words that customers use to describe the shop. The interior and custom fixtures were designed by a talented Chicago architect at Animate. One step inside, and you know you’ve discovered a special place.
