Our Beginning Garment Sewing Workshop uses patterns from The Act of Sewing by Sonya Philip. The Act of Sewing workbook offers great basic patterns that will empower you to express your personal style and make clothes that are comfortable and stylish. The book covers introductory concepts of sewing and construction, then provides suggestions for mixing the patterns together to create new garment iterations as you gain confidence. Also provided are a range of possible alterations and embellishments including sleeves, pockets, hems, and more. The Act of Sewing encourages experimentation and customization.

Learn how to read and trace a pattern and then sew one of the garments from The Act Of Sewing. You can choose from a simple top, pants, skirt or dress. Previous experience with a sewing machine is required, and beginner lessons and classes are also available. In this workshop, you will receive direct instruction and work at your own pace. You may bring your own machine or use one of ours. We will meet for 2 hours over three sessions. Between sessions you will need to work on your project in order to complete your garment in the three week timeframe. If you need additional time or help with the project, you may add on a private lesson.
